There are some items the iPhone defaults to that will not work with your email.

  • Do not use an SSL connection.  The iPhone sets this up by default, you need to go into the advanced settings after the fact and turn it off.  If you feel you must use an SSL connection, you will need to use the server-wide SSL certificate or get your own.  More information can be found in your hosting welcome letter or in the mail accounts section of your cpanel.
  • The iPhone sets up your mail account as IMAP by default.  While you can certainly use it as an IMAP account, if you don't know HOW to use it this way, your mailbox will rapidly fill up.  IMAP does not remove mail form the server.  We highly recommend that you change it to POP3 if you don't need to use IMAP.

Your email account settings:

  • Incoming host name is mail.yourdomainname.com
  • Username is your complete email address
  • Password is the password your set up for this email account.
  • Outgoing is mail.yourdomainname.com
  • You need to select that your outgoing server requires authentication, and to use the same settings (login) as your incoming server.

Note: While you are configuring your email account on your phone you may see a warning that the server certificate is invalid or cannot be verified  (sometimes 2 or 3 times). This is actually normal and nothing to worry about - continue with the setup by clicking OK or Continue.
